Illinois sheriff should get off his ass and do his job

I read an article today on BBC about how a Sheriff's office in Illinois is suing Craigslist for allegedly facilitating prostitution. The sheriff, Thomas Dart, says that the "erotic services" section of Craigslist should be taken down. Leave it to the Brits to call personal ads "erotic services."

Anyway, I read this and so very many things jumped out at me.

Mr Dart called the site "the single largest source of prostitution in the nation."

Yet still you are unable to find and prosecute them. This is akin to saying, well, we know the area where all the hookers are, so let's close the street down (rather than go out and cuff some hoes). If it's the single largest source of hookery, shouldn't you know exactly where to look in trying to prevent prostitution?

I suspect this is all because this department, like much of law enforcement, is too far behind on technology. Rather than getting smart and pimp-slapping the pimps over the interweb, this sheriff's office would rather sit on its ass, attempt to grab publicity through a story like this, and not actually adapt.

Stop trying to get the government to do your dirty work (not to mention infringing on civil liberties), get off your ass, learn the pipes and tubes, and make some arrests...
